About Scapegrace Kennels.

Back in 2014 our family took to owning and exhibiting Parson Russell Terriers. This was not a decision taken lightly, as there is a great responsibility not only to the dogs we own, but to do the right thing for the breed itself.

Most of all it is a hobby. Our dogs are first and foremost family pets.

But what led to this path? Through childhood to adulthood, dogs were a natural part of home life. Breeds from German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Great Dane, Labrador and the good old mongrel. But as a young adult, work and then a family of our own did not allow the time needed to commit to showing or breeding.

The turning point was when my last German Shepherd bitch passed away. We had a 5 year gap of no dogs in our family. This gave us time to realise that we did really miss having dogs in our lives. It was like a gaping hole.

Our family had grown up. We had the ability to take early retirement, which allowed time to be at home with dogs. So, the only decision was to decide what breed to become deeply involved with.

Size was a factor.

Durability of the breed (as none of us in our family are fragile or timid).

Personality and character.

Exercise was not an issue as our family is an active one.

We sought advice off vets, professional groomers, spoke to various breeders, and went to small shows and Crufts itself to talk to people.

A shortlist of breeds made and the family choice decided.

The Parson Russell Terrier.

A lot of breeders researched in the process. Questions asked. Visits made.

And, finally puppies bought giving us the basis or our founding kennel. This was our journey in brief to where we started, and our journey continues on this site.
